Ishtar Gate, Pergamon Museum - Berlin

The Ishtar Gate was the eighth gate to the inner city of Babylon.

It was constructed in about 575 BC by order of King

Nebuchadnezzar II on the north side of the city.

A reconstruction of the Ishtar Gate and Processional Way was built at the Pergamon Museum

in Berlin out of material excavated by Robert Koldewey and finished in the 1930s.

The gate was in fact a double gate.

The part that is shown in the Pergamon Museum today is only the smaller, frontal part,

while the larger, back part was considered too large to fit into the constraints

of the structure of the museum. It is in storage.

Ten years ago I was there...

It was time to come back!

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a double arcade in the center of Milan, Italy. The structure is formed by two glass-vaulted arcades intersecting in an octagon covering the street connecting Piazza del Duomo to Piazza della Scala.

More than 130 years after its inauguration, the four-story arcade includes elegant shops selling most things from haute couture and jewelry to books and paintings, as well as restaurants, cafés, and "beautiful people".

Back from Brazil, we would like to present one of São Paulo landmarks and thank

you all for the kind visits and comments in our blog.

The Municipal Theatre of São Paulo was built between 1903 and 1911.

Eclectic in style, the Theatre is heavily loaded with ornament,

so as to achieve accentuated effects of light and shade.

The building now houses São Paulo Municipal Symphonic Orchestra,

the Lyric Choir and the City Ballet of São Paulo.

The façade is distinguished by pairs of vigorous atlantids (male figures serving as pillars)

which support first-floor balconies and

by columns of polished syenite with bronze capitals on the same floor.

The Ghent-based Cameroon-born artist Pascale Marthine Tayou is part of a generation of African

artists who tackle post-colonial issues by mixing the experiences they have of their countries

of origin with those they have of the western world.

Pascale Marthine Tayou has been invited to come up with a work for the Grand Hall of Mudam.

His answer is Home Sweet Home, an installation taking the form of a city perched

16 feet up, set on a wooden structure.

The Cercle Municipal is located at the eastern end of the Place d'Armes,
in the historic central Ville Haute quarter of the city.
It is part of Luxembourg's life since 1909.

In 2006, comprehensive renovation and restoration work was carried out on the Cercle
in order to transform it into a convention and exhibition centre.
The work was completed in April 2011 providing not only enhancements to the Grande Salle
and the Foyer but also to the cellar, which can now house exhibitions, and the former loft,
now the fifth floor, where four rooms form a new conference centre.

Since 1961 the National Day of Luxembourg is celebrate
every year on June 23rd
marking the official birthday of the Grand Duke.

Like every year, tens of thousands of Luxembourg,

the foreign residents and tourists gather on June 23,

as well as June 22 (eve of National Day) to celebrate together.

A torchlight tattoo, grand fireworks, open air concerts and
DJ performances will liven up the streets, bars and cafes.

It's a Roman Catholic parish church and minor basilica in Scherpenheuvel-Zichem, Belgium.
The church was consecrated in 1627 and raised to the status of a minor basilica in 1922.
It is reputedly the most frequently visited shrine of pilgrimage in Belgium.
